C. B. Clark-Guest Author

Hi all! Today I would like to spotlight author C. B. Clark. I was a lucky duck who had the opportunity to read her upcoming release, Twisted Lies. If the title has piqued your interest, then you are in the same boat (no pun intended) I was. C. B. has an incredible way of merging real-life issues with mystery, romance, and intrigue while seemingly sucking us into her character's worlds and lives. Want to know more? Here's a blurb to satisfy your needs:

Athena Cooper’s tragic past drives her to seek solace in a bottle. The addiction threatens her legal career, and she risks spiraling out of control. When her dog engineers a meeting with an all-too-handsome hunk, it’s lust at first sight…until she discovers his identity.

Businessman Russell Crawford is desperate to find the woman who cheated him out of his inheritance. His shock when she turns out to be the gorgeous red head he had a brief encounter with is only surpassed when she claims his father was a murderer.

Athena and Russ declare a truce and join forces to investigate the mystery of her parents’ disappearance from an isolated island off the rugged Northwest Coast of British Columbia. Russ promises to be her safe harbor as they uncover long-buried secrets that rock her very foundation. Can she overcome a lifelong distrust and open her heart to love?

Still not enough? I understand. Can I make it up to you with an excerpt? Great!

How was it possible? After all these years? The past she’d been running from had found her. The nightmare was back. The envelope fell from her shaking hands. Her legs wobbled as she rose and stumbled out of the living room and down the short hall to the kitchen.

Afternoon sunlight streamed through the window above the sink. The cozy kitchen, with its walls, painted a cheerful butter yellow, and the well-scrubbed laminate countertops gleamed. The steady hum of the refrigerator and ticking of the antique clock on the wall were the only sounds in the silent house. The pungent smell of fried onions and roasted garlic from last night’s homemade spaghetti sauce hung in the air.

The efficient kitchen, with its breakfast nook and view of the tidy, fenced backyard and the rolling, grassy foothills and snow-crested Rocky Mountains beyond, was the reason she’d bought the small rancher. This was her favorite room—the place she sought refuge when life overwhelmed her. How many times had she sat there in the evenings after work, sipping a glass of chilled white wine, watching the birds at the feeder on the back porch, breathing in the sweet smells of flowering Saskatoon bushes, regrouping until she was ready to face the world?

These days, her drink of choice was a cup of herbal tea or unsweetened apple juice. Alcohol was off the table…had been for twenty-one unendurable days.

But today, all bets were off.

I was able to ask C. B. some questions, so let's hear what she has to say!

How did you come up with the idea for Twisted Lies? Was it inspired by a true crime or television show? Or did the idea just pop into your mind one day?

Since I’m a pantster, I start with an initial idea or a unique character and go from there. I love the excitement of not knowing what’s going to happen next. Watching Athena, the heroine in Twisted Lies, struggle to overcome the scars of her tragic past and find true love kept me at my computer for hours.

I love the name Athena, and it suits your heroine well! What was it about your Main Character that made you choose that name for her?

I love the name as well. Like her namesake, Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom and warfare, the Athena in Twisted Lies is strong. She’s a fighter and never gives up.

Please, for the love of all that is holy, tell us how you came up with our hunky hero, Russ? What a dreamboat!

Aside from being drop-dead handsome with sculpted muscles, Russ is strong yet vulnerable. Best of all…he’s a dog lover. What’s not to like?

Twisted Lies talks quite a bit about sailing and boats. Do/did you sail, or did you grow up around boats?

I love being on the water, and I’ve sailed in all types of small boats on the ocean, but I’m definitely not an expert. For this story, I consulted with experienced sailors who are familiar with the rough waters off British Columbia’s coast.

Otis is a rescue doggo we get to meet in Twisted Lies. As a dog lover and owner, I have a soft spot for furry canines…was it always your plan to incorporate a dog into your story?

Twisted Lies is my first story where a dog features as a central character. No mystery there. I have a young pooch named Penny who’s full of energy. When Covid started, I spent hours watching the news and lost my drive to write. It was only because Penny needed a long run every day that I got outside. Watching her joy in chasing grouse and squirrels helped me focus on the beauty around me, much like Otis helps Athena.

What is your most favorite & least favorite part about writing?

I love the creative part of writing and the journey I’m on with the characters as they fight their way to find true love. My least favorite part is promotion. I’d much rather be writing than on social media sites promoting my books but having a social media presence is the only way to make a book stand out.

I want to thank C. B. Clark so much for giving us the scoop on Twisted Lies, which releases on September 22nd! Before I head out, check out my review below, followed by a word about the author and links to get your copy! Also, don't forget to follow her on all of her social media accounts to stay up to date with her latest works.

Review: 5 stars!!!!! Twisted Lies by C. B. Clark is exactly how it sounds…twisted and full of lies, but in the can’t stop reading kind of way. When Athena was a child, her parents seemingly vanished into thin air. Who, what, and why were questions that plagued her through adulthood, and she’d given up hope that they would ever be answered. But when a stroll in the park leads her to a swoon-worthy stranger, and a lawyer’s letter dredges up a dark past, everything she thought she knew falls apart into a pile of lies and locked-up secrets. Will forming an unlikely alliance give her the strength to face her past and find the answers she’s been searching for, or will twisted lies haunt her forever? The world C. B. Clark created sucked me and refused to let me go. I felt for both Athena and Russ as they both suffered unthinkable tragedies, and I found them to be relatable and realistic. Highly recommend!

Author Biography: Twisted Lies is award-winning author, C.B. Clark’s seventh novel published by The Wild Rose Press. When she’s not busy traveling around the globe or hiking and camping in the wilderness near her home in northern British Columbia, she can be found in front of her laptop plotting the next story.
